RMA’s and State Conferences are forums where members negotiate policy openly and democratically. For the ALP Platform to remain relevant it must change and evolve. While my main focus is the natural environment, chapter 5, I am very concerned about inequality and how this affects society. I support publicly-run education, health, aged care, Centrelink; public-funded childcare; and energy, water, forests, soils, reefs.
I’m vice-president of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland Branch, member of Fisher Campaign Committee, of the SCWB RMA Committee, a member of QLD Labor Environment Action Network executive, the SCWB LEAN Sub-Group, and the executive of Regional Labor. I support election campaigns – booths, street stalls, letters to the media.
I speak up for the importance of setting limits to environmental impacts, which Labor does much better than the LNP. I work with others in the party on the health of rivers and groundwater. When we allow these things to degrade ecologically, we create present and future poverty. I support transition to renewables. Locally we need to ensure that houses and highways do not take further impact forests, wetlands, coastal waters. Great to have Jason Hunt, Rob Skelton and Ali King representing us.

My name is Daniel Bessell and I am nominating to be a branch delegate to state conference for Fisher. I have been involved in the Caloundra branch of the ALP for about 13 years and am currently the Vice President of the branch. I work as a Union Organiser for the Electrical Trades Union and during my time I have campaigned to improve the working conditions and rights of our members and our community here on the Sunshine Coast.
I was heavily involved in the Not 4 Sale campaign the ETU ran which ultimately saw the end of the Newman Government and protected our electricity assets from being privatised. I was also proud to campaign with the ETU to introduce Voluntary Assisted Dying legislation into state parliament. Locally I worked hard to ensure Jason Hunt was elected as the first Labor member for Caloundra in more than 100 years.
I am keen to be a voice for our region at state conference.

I am a father of twins and Director of the Queensland branch of Professionals Australia – the union for engineers, scientists and managers.
I have been a party member for 8 years and previously co-convened the Labor Environment Action Network Queensland. Working with branch members and union members, I’ve led the campaign for CleanCo and greater investment in publicly owned renewable energy. Only through workers leading and community ownership can we face the challenges of climate change.
Representing professional workers I have negotiated agreements and led strikes and collective action to ensure fairness and respect at work. I believe we can create a Sunshine Coast where everyone has a roof over their head, opportunities to work and a sustainable environment to pass onto our children.

My name is Karen Moran. I have been a long standing member of the Caloundra Labor Branch, previously holding both Vice President and President executive positions. I have also played an active role in many state and federal elections, more recently the 2020 state election supporting Jason Hunt MP and the 2022 federal election supporting Judene Andrews. I am a Kindergarten Teacher working in long day care and a United Workers Union delegate for the Early Childhood Education and Care sector.
I have worked tirelessly campaigning for better wages for Early Childhood Educators and for better working conditions. As part of the Big Steps campaign I have flown to Canberra to lobby federal politicians for wage increases and have been part of several national and state-wide actions. I am passionate about my Labor values and if elected to represent the people of Fisher I promise to take your ideas and concerns with me and make sure everyone has a voice. There is much work to be done but I know that we can achieve great things together.

Many thanks to Fisher ALP Members for considering me to represent you at State Conference.
I have been a proud member of the Labor Party since 2009. I am currently the Secretary of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland ALP Branch and I have been a member of the ‘Healthy Living ’Policy Drafting Committee for several years.
I first attended a Qld Labor State Conference in Townsville as an observer. I had contributed to the ‘Healthy Living’ policy that year relating to pre-hospital patient care, and I was keen to observe how policy was endorsed at State Conference. In 2021, I attended State Conference as a proxy.
I have a particular interest in health care policy. I have been employed in the health care sector for over 30 years and I have seen enormous change and improvement in the delivery of health care in Queensland. That said, much has yet to be achieved to ensure Queenslander’s receive world class health care.
I would like your support to be one of your delegates for Fisher and I am keen to advocate for you in all policy platforms at Conference.
