I’m McKinley Fiveash. I’m an active member of the Springwood Branch and was honoured to be Mick de Brenni’s Campaign Director at the last state election. I’m also a proud member of the Rail, Tram and Bus Union where I work alongside rail and bus workers across Queensland.
Since I joined the party 8 years ago, I have worked closely as part of the Palaszczuk Government and with the union movement to deliver on the policies and objectives of the Labor Party in areas such as housing, procurement, public works and energy. I am proud to work directly in the movement to fight for better working conditions for transport workers.
The Albanese and Palaszczuk Governments won their elections thanks to the hard work of branch and union members who spent every moment talking to Queenslanders about our plans for a better future.
I’m running as a Branch Delegate to State Conference because I want to see our great Party get even stronger, and remain closely connected to working people.

I became involved in Labor on my first day at Uni in February 1996. That day, a woman called Liz Cunningham single-handedly brought down an elected Labor Government in Queensland. She said there was a leaky roof at a local high school in Gladstone. So, she put the LNP into office. I joined the ALP and have campaigned for Labor ever since.
At every federal, state and local election since I have campaigned for Labor – including for Jim in Rankin. And now he is the Treasurer of Australia.
I have had the great privilege of being a Campaign Director, Temporary Federal Organiser, Ministerial and Parliamentary Chief of Staff, and electorate officer.
The Labor Party honoured me in 2018 with a Meritorious Service Award presented at State Conference by Annastacia Palaszczuk and Bill Shorten.
My reason for running for State Conference in Rankin is to bring my passion for fairness and political and policy experience to the table.
As a former Chief of Staff to the Minister for Sport and now working in sports law, I want to contribute to legacy policy on the Brisbane 2032 Olympics and Paralympics and their potential for increasing physical activity and increasing infrastructure for Logan.

I joined the party in 2019 after being a workplace delegate for FSU for a number of years and as a delegate, I realised that I had a real passion for everything the union movement and Labor believe in.
At the start of COVID, I met Mick de Brenni and his team. I helped make hundreds of calls to vulnerable Queenslanders to ensure that they had the supplies and support they needed. During the 2020 Queensland State Election, I worked on Mick’s re-election campaign, talking to people in our community about Labor values and the work that the Palaszczuk government had done in the previous five years.
This year I was involved in Jim Chalmers’s Federal Election campaign, again talking to community members about how poor of a job the Morrison government had done and how we needed a change.
Recently I have again been involved in EA negotiations in my workplace. I have planned and successfully led two campaigns to vote down the agreement that my employer has put forward. I have organised my workplace and brought together people from many different departments with very different roles as well as significantly increasing union membership.

Today I am asking for your support to be a State Conference delegate for the amazing Federal Electorate of Rankin.
I’m running to continue the fantastic work of McKinley and Shelley to grow our party, and become more inclusive and progressive. If the federal election taught us anything, it’s that Australians want a strong progressive government.
Since joining the Labor party in 2014, I have held a variety of positions through the party, from Beenleigh Branch Secretary, Forde FEC secretary, Field organiser for Forde, Secretary of Algester Parkinson branch to my current position as Branch President of the growing Algester Parkinson Branch here in western Rankin.
I have also been a part of Leeanne Enochs electorate office team for over years, and the field organiser in 2020. In my spare time, I’ve also campaigned for tough seats like Theordore and Coomera on the Gold Coast.
As a member of Rainbow Labor and QLD Young Labor, I feel it’s incredibly important to have a broad level of representation at State Conference from Rankin, I need your support to make it happen.
